Description
Salem Maritime National Historic Site. The Friendship of Salem is a 171-foot replica of a 1797 East Indiaman, built in the Scarano Brothers Shipyard in Albany, New York, in 2000. The ship usually functions as a stationary museum during most of the year, however the ship is a fully functioning United States Coast Guard certified vessel capable of passenger and crew voyages, and will set sail during various times of the year. The Friendship of Salem is docked at the Salem Maritime National Historic Site, which is the first American National Historic Site; it is operated by the National Park Service
